Our mission and
role
The International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world's
largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without
discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or
political opinions.
Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 176 member Red
Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more
than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around
the world. There are more societies in formation. The Red Crescent is
used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries.

Shocked and saddened by the recent attacks in the United States,
members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are sending an
outpouring of compassionate messages, offering to provide volunteers,
blood, financial assistance, search and rescue teams and other in-kind
donations to support the work of the American Red Cross.

in the East - Afghan refugees
This page is a link to all
the information available from the International Federation regarding
its contingency planning and preparedness measures to assist refugees
fleeing Afghanistan for fear of military attacks on the country.
The Federation is assisting
Red Crescent societies in countries bordering Afghanistan to prepare
for population movements in the region. These preparatory measures are
aimed at fast and effective alleviation of human suffering. The focus
is on providing shelter, clean water, food and health care.
